Groomer
Today was my first time to actually need to work in all of my capacities, a farrier a groomer and a vet. Normally just one part is requiered but today I was going to see a horse three times to make sure she was alright and taken care of more then the owner itself was already doing. The mare was a beautiful Lusitano and she was a sight to been seen. Packing my large van with everything I could possble need, I moved to the stable and looked through the pastures. All these horses that were running around or enjoying the morning sun. Parking I set everything up in three stalls and smiled. Now I could go and bring her in.
Desiree, which was the name of the mare was stanging enjoying the morning sun. A smile crossed my face and I walked to the gate to her pasture. I shook the treatbox and the needed response came from her. She came running. Having read the file I had on her I knew she did not like to see the vet and so I made sure to more look like a groomer. Desiree nuzzled her head against me and I clicked the leadrope on her halter. Taking her to the stall I placed her in and started the grooming session. She enjoyed it but she was moving a lot. Not wanting to stand still. Smiling I talked to her and she responded to it. After brushing out the manes and tails I put Desiree in a different stall which was prepped to be used for washing. Putting on the water I let it warm up a bit before wetting her and running the sponge with the shampoo on it through her coat to clean her out completely. She stood nice and still seemingly enjoying the warmth of the water. Just one leg she seemed to be hesitate for me to touch and seeing how I needed to do a basic first aid anyway I made sure to examine the leg and noticed a few scratches on it. Hosing Desiree down and making sure the shampoo would not irritate the wounds I then dried her and placed her under the heat lamp to dry up.
Meanwhile I went to clean her box and food and water bowls. The box was dirty but what was most noticable was that everything was to the side like she also walked a lot around in her stable. I cleaned it out and used a hard broom to make sure everything was cleaned out, before putting new bedding in . I had already cleaned out the feed bowl and the automatic watering system. Moving back to Desiree I checked her leg and started my new job with her as farrier, I would leave the vet part for last.

Farrier
Moving Desiree from under the heatlamp to the left stall where all my farrier tools were. Desiree didn't like she could not stretch her legs now and when I lifted one up it seemed that she wanted to show me and pulled back. As I took her hoof up again she tried to kick me and I gave her a stirn warning. Checking the hooves I noticed the same one she had trouble with when I was showering her now also was being now her trouble hoof. The other three were just fine and I trimmed them down as much as needed. The one she had trouble with I took a better look at. There seem to be small bruiseses in the sole as if that was the hoof she used to kick against the wall of her box when she wanted to get out. It explained why she was acting like this. The hoof itself didn't need much work and so I made a note to give the owner a cream to put on it and give her a weeks rest in the pasture so she could heal.

Vet Service
Last but not least I worked on Desiree as a vet. Having worked on her for most of the afternoon already I knew what I was looking for. Over the whole seen Desiree was a very healthy energenic mare and she was young. The basic exam showed this as well. I moved on to her dental work and here and there removed some hooks which was not strange for a mare her age. From her teeth I could see that she indeed was 3 years old, maybe 3.5 but not four yet. I wrote that down and smiled as I was now going to do the one thing I knew she hated the most. Vaccinate. Prepairing everything behind a wall I slowly walked to Desiree, but she was one smart mare and knew instantly what was going on. Her ears went flat in her neck and she reared low showing her discomfort. I petted her neck telling her it was alright and then in a swift movement made sure that I vaccinated her. She didn't like it all and tried to bite me. I stepped away from her and let her calm down. The worst was over now. As she noticed nothing more came, Desiree calmed down and I was able to take her to the pasture again. She ran off and bucked, kicking her legs back towards me. From a distance she looked at me. I knew next time she would not have forgotten yet.
